We’ll explore progression in asana as an integrated practice which includes standing balance, backbends, forward folds, twists, hand balance, inversions, bandhas, pranayama kumbhakas and the chakras. Learn how and when to go deeper, which can mean many things. Physically, it depends on how well we prime the body through preliminary practices.
Energetically, it depends on how consciously we focus on the subtle body to energetically release obstructions, and how clearly we set a motivation for a deep practice.
Deepening Asana Series
This progressive series runs for 5 Sundays to gradually explore how and when to go deeper, which can mean many things.
Physically, it depends on how well we prime the body through preliminary practices.
Energetically, it depends on how consciously we focus on the subtle body to energetically release obstructions, and how clearly we set a motivation for deep practice.
Psychologically and emotionally, it depends on how clearly we listen to our deepest heart – because the deepest practice could mean remaining in Savasana for the whole class!
We’ll explore progression in asana as an integrated practice which includes the poses, the bandhas, the mudras and the kumbhakas. Padma has taught Physical and Subtle Body Anatomy, Yoga Philosophy and Asana Teaching Methodology in several Yoga Teacher Training Programs worldwide, including Langara College and the Yoga Studies Institute.

Yvonne Jaques, named Padma by her Teacher Swami Muktibodhananda Saraswati, is passionate about passing on to others the yogic science lineage she has received from her precious teachers. She completed a silent, isolated yoga and meditation retreat for just under three years in November, 2013. Her classes, courses, workshops and retreats are ardent testimonies to the benefits of yogic practices—yama, niyama, shatkarma, asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and subtle body meditation techniques—refined in a retreat setting as taught in the yogic texts. Padma was a corrective exercise therapist for twenty-five years and brings a depth of experiential knowledge in alignment and biomechanics to all her classes. Participants in her classes and courses are most often heard to say that Padma’s passion is infectious, and that she has a particular gift for enabling them to experience something they’ve never felt or done before.
Padma is a yoga teacher trainer with more than 2500 hours of yogic study including yoga teacher trainings and studies in yogic philosophy from Baba Hari Dass’ Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, the Yoga Studies Institute, the Asian Classics Institute’s 54 courses in foundational and advanced Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, advanced meditation practice and yogic science. Padma has served on the faculties of the Yoga Teacher Training programs at Langara College and the Yoga Studies Institute and is the author of two books – A Mindful Kitchen – Cooking with the Six Perfections and Anatomy for Yoga Instructors.
