Classes
Open Door Yoga offers several types of classes: hatha yoga classes which are for all levels and make up the majority of the classes; restorative yoga for healing and very gentle opening; power yoga classes which are more vigorous; power 2 yoga for taking the vigour to another level; and yin yoga in which poses are held for longer stretches. For a more complete description of the class type, please see below.
A small, cozy space holding a maximum of 30 ensures students receive attention and guidance from the friendly and professional teachers.
Hatha Yoga Classes:
Geared for beginners with many variations given so that more advanced students will also enjoy ~ be challenged ~ in the class.
Each class consists of:
Pranayama (Breathing Exercise): to cleanse the body and mind
Asana (Postures): to strengthen, improve flexibility, and bring balance to the body
Shavasana (Relaxation): to revitalize, rejuvenate and heal the body and mind.
Intro to Hatha:
Geared for students who have little or no experience in hatha yoga, or for those who are interested in reviewing or gaining deeper knowledge of breathing and postures. Some of these classes (the ones with no teacher name listed) are taught by recent graduates of our 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher Training.
This gentle class focuses on breathing, relaxation, gentle movements, and supported poses. This class is ideal for people with injuries, chronic pain, or limited mobility, but open to all people who are looking for a gentle, relaxing practice. The slow pace of Restorative Yoga is the perfect antidote to the stressful daily rhythms of modern, urban living.
Vinyasa Yoga Classes (Ashtanga and Hatha styles): are geared for students who have some previous experience in yoga and are somewhat familiar with the postures. Faster-paced than a hatha class, the power yoga class works the cardiovascular system and incorporates the sun salutation series in a dynamic flow (shorter rest periods) of postures.
Designed to bring flexibility and suppleness to the connective tissues in the body.
Passive postures are held for long periods of time, while muscular effort is relaxed to encourage a gentle and safe opening of ligaments, joints and even bones. Yin Yoga generally targets the hips, pelvis and spine, however other areas may be explored depending on the class. Suitable for all levels, this style is a great complement to more dynamic expressions of yoga. Yin yoga offers a meditative approach to the practice and benefits both body and mind.
