Prāṇāyāma in Hatha Yoga: Science and Energetics
Sunday, Mar 22, 2026
Time: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pmLocation: Open Door Yoga Main 14th

Move beyond isolated techniques to develop a deeper understanding of Prāṇāyāma and explore the connection of Prāṇā and the mind. Rooted in the wisdom of Classical Hatha Yoga texts and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, we will examine Prāṇāyāma as a transformative psychophysiological practice — not simply breathwork, but a systematic regulation of prana (the vital energy).
Prāṇāyāma is a disciplined science that requires preparation and practice – the gateway to steadiness of mind and heightened internal awareness. We will get familiar with the subtlest qualities of our breath, delve into the biomechanics of breath and diaphragmatic breathing, discuss mechanics and safety in breath retention (kumbhaka), integrate bandhas, and explore specific breath practices and ratios.
This session blends a guided experiential practice with the theoretical foundations of Prāṇāyāma as the fourth limb of Ashtanga Yoga — and is open to yoga practitioners looking to deepen a foundational practice.
