Facilitator’s Bio
Lalita has been immersed in classical hatha yoga from an early age. Her grandmother was among the first Sivananda teachers in the West, teaching at the Sivananda centre in Montreal from its inception, and of course was Lalita’s first yoga teacher. In 2010 Lalita headed to the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Val Morin for teacher training. She took a brief 10-year detour into Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga, studying with senior teachers in Vancouver, Europe and Australia. Both traditions inform her personal practice. Both traditions have taught her how to adapt the practice to the student, rather than adapt the student to the practice. Lalita returns to the ashram regularly to study with senior teachers, replenish her foundations and deepen her practice, and wishes to share these teachings with her students. Her goal is to hold space for a calm, meditative environment in which to explore the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yoga. Lalita is known as a light-hearted and humorous teacher – stuff happens in yoga class!
“I practice yoga to help create and maintain peace within myself, and I teach yoga to share this peace practice with others. I hope you leave class feeling both energized and fully reee-laaaxed!! Much gratitude to my wonderful teachers near and far who continue to inspire me in daily life. OM Namah Sivaya!”
